Nordre Drag
A vineyard in Øverskogen, Lier
People have farmed the land at Nordre Drag since the Viking age. The farm has come through changing times, lay abandoned after the Black Death and was rebuilt after a great fire in 1752. Today we are writing a new chapter in its history, with local winemaking on Holsfjorden.

March
The year begins with snow still on the ground. The vines stand bare — what carried last year has been taken off.

May
The buds break on the cane bent down in spring. From here the vineyard is worked every week until harvest.

July
Flowering is over and the bunches have just set. They are green and hard still, with two months to go.

September
The fruit is carried in by the crate, a row at a time. The very first harvest was on 1 October 2022.

October
Rondo is still hanging when the Solaris is in. The bunches are dark blue, and they hang until they are ripe.

January
The wine is bottled and laid down, and the year has come round.
Two people, one farm. Every part of the work is done by hand.

The barn on the left, the farmhouse on the right.
Who does what
Anne has the main responsibility for the daily care of the vines, trimming and tying in. It is slow work, and it runs without a break through spring, summer and autumn.
André has the main responsibility for the winemaking.
The planting has largely been done by André and their elder son Heine, with their younger son Herman on the extensions.
